Steelworkers across the UK are threatening unofficial strike action in a row over pay.

One-day strikes and protests are thought to be planned in London, including White City and Canary Wharf, as well as Manchester, Leeds and Slough.

The action follows an incident at a site at 240 Regent Street in which two directly employed workers dismissed by Bourne Steel were told their grievance procedures were not covered by the NAECI agreement, a national pay and conditions deal for the sector, because it did not cover commercial projects.

One steelworker said: “We have got an action plan, especially with the Olympics coming up. If they are not going to allow us grievance procedures, we are just going to take it to the extreme.”
