Crane part-collapsed in Greenwich in high winds yesterday

High winds from Storm Katie have part-collapsed a crane on a Bouygues site in Greenwich, south London.

The jib of the crane snapped during high winds of up to 70mph in the early hours yesterday morning.

Bouygues confirmed the site was a mixed-use scheme for client Family Mosaic and that there were no injuries.

A Bouygues spokesperson said: “We are carrying out an urgent investigation following an incident involving a crane at one of our sites in London, caused by the recent extreme adverse weather conditions.

“We can confirm that there were no injuries; the area has been secured; we have been working closely with the emergency services and kept the relevant authorities informed.

“Despite the continued poor weather conditions, we have managed to secure the crane and will be continuing our investigations today to establish the cause of the incident and carry out any necessary remedial works.”
