M&E specialist vows to maintain margins despite heated competition

T Clarke will maintain a selective bid policy to guard against uncompetitive tendering, it said in a trading update today.

The mechanical and electrical specialist said it would remain selective to maintain margins, despite heated competition in the sector.

T Clarke said: “There are numerous tenderopportunities available to T. Clarke and whilst we do not see any margin recovery in the short term in our core markets, the securing of valued work is important to retain our leading industry position.

“It has been sensible, therefore, to remain selective when choosing which projects to bid for and we will continue to focus on maintaining margins where possible, despite customer pressure and increased competition.”

Recent contract wins included Tate Modern 2, the London cable car project and the facilities management contract for the London 2012 Olympic Stadium.

T Clarke reported that its order book stood at £180m as of 30 April, down from £200m at the same point the previous year.
