Engineer and contractor's turnover it boosted by £27m to £194m.

engineer and contractor T Clarke has boosted its turnover and profit and a flurry of acquisitions in the last year.

Posting preliminary results for the year ending 31 December 2005, the firm grew its turnover from £157m to £194m. Pre-tax profits rose from £7.8m to £8.6m.

T Clarke's £5.8m acquisitions of made during the year for a combined value of £5.8m Included Smith Contracting Services (subsequently renamed SCS Building Services Ltd.) in January for £4.1m; and Waldon Electrical Contractors Ltd in May for £1.7m.

Together the pair added £16m in turnover and £548,000 in pre-tax profits to the firm.

T Clarke's major completions included Cardinal Place, Victoria, and Bishops Square, Bishopsgate, and 199 Knightsbridge in London as well as Sainsbury Centre For Visual Arts, Cambridge

Its main new projects included 02 Millennium Dome, 201 Bishopsgate and Broadgate Tower, the Shell Centre, Waterloo, Bordeaux Quay, Bristol and RAF Croughton New Sub-Station.

Chief executive Pat Stanborough said: "T Clarke has continued to make encouraging progress during the year. Despite continued pressure on margins, the business is well set."

Stanborough said that he expected margins to recover during the year.
