Turner & Townsend has acquired a majority stake in a Kenyan project management firm as part of its ongoing expansion plans in Africa.

The consultant purchased the stake in Nairobi-based Mentor Management Ltd (MML) from growth markets investor Actis.

T&T’s existing team in Kenya will join MML’s to create a combined office of over 40 employees, providing a range of services including programme management, project management and cost management. The new entity will be known as MML Turner & Townsend.

MML has been operating in Kenya since 1987 helping to deliver projects such as the Garden City Nairobi shopping centre and a new chancery for the Australian High Commission.

Vincent Clancy, chairman and chief executive at T&T (pictured), said: “The merger of our Kenya operation with MML, sees MML Turner & Townsend become the largest independent project and programme management company in East Africa.

“This is the next step in our Africa expansion plan as we continue to grow across the continent.”
