PM returns to London to after series of blasts rocks capital.

The prime minister has said it is "reasonably clear that there have been a series of terrorist attacks" in London after near-simultaneous explosions at Aldgate, Old Street, Edgware Road and Kings Cross, while a separate explosion ripped the roof of a double-decker bus near Russell Square.

Two people have been confirmed dead, and dozens more fatalities are feared after explosions both underground and at street level.

The entire tube network has been shut down after the blasts – initially thought to have been caused by a power surge – and all London hospitals are on a major incident alert. Eye-witnesses have described seeing casualties covered in soot pouring onto the streets as staff evacuated stations.

The prime minister is leaving Gleneagles to fly to London this afternoon, but said that the leaders at the G8 summit were determined that terrorism would not stop them in their efforts to end poverty in Africa.
