Plans for the £1.5bn Silvertown Quays redevelopment in east London have been boosted by a £25m cash injection from the Bank of Scotland. This will fund the project through the planning stages. Proposals for the scheme include 3500 homes, 500,000 ft2 of retail and leisure facilities and Europe's largest aquarium, designed by Terry Farrell & Partners. The aquarium is likely to become a huge tourist attraction when it opens in 2006. The project is led by the London Development Agency and the Silvertown Quays Consortium, a joint venture between Kajima Urban Development and Silvertown Quays.
