Environment champion will apear via 'carbon free' satellite link

Former US Vice President Al Gore is to be the keynote speaker at the Think 07 conference on sustainability and the built environment.

Gore will appear ‘carbon free’ via a live satellite link from the United States, and will deliver a speech to delegates before taking questions.

Since his defeat to George W Bush in the American presidential election of 2000, Gore has become an international campaigner for action on climate change. His documentary on environmental issues An Inconvenient Truth won an Oscar last month.

His keynote speech will reportedly cover national and international affairs, the environment and new business management and the future of the world economy.

Think 07 event director David Pierpoint said: “It is a fantastic coup for us to have secured Gore’s attendance at this year’s inaugural event. His expertise in the political, environmental and international arenas will prove to be invaluable in helping to determine the future direction of the industry.”

The conference, taking place from 1-3 May, looks at the industry’s preparations for the economic, social and environmental challenges of the future.

Other speakers at the event include chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games Lord Coe, Urban Splash founder Tom Bloxham and Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King.
