Consulting engineer Buro Happold has been commissioned to develop its winning design for the Ponte della Musica bridge in Rome. The bridge design team came out top in the international competition for a dual-purpose pedestrian and public transport bridge across the River Tiber. The scheme, which was co-designed with Powell-Williams Architects, consists of two leaning steel arches supporting a steel deck. The concrete arch springings incorporate staircases providing secondary access from the lower river banks.
