Conservatives tell estate agents that sellers’ packs will be binned if they win the election.

Shadow minister for Housing and Planning John Hayes MP has pledged that a Conservative government would scrap compulsory Home Information Packs.

Speaking at the National Association of Estate Agents' National congress, Mr Hayes told the NAEA: “A Conservative government would … suspend the scheme immediately. We would cut red tape for people wanting to sell their homes, and we would put to rest at once the idea of Home Information Packs.”

His promise went down well with estate agents, who are unhappy with the way the present government has attempted to reform the house-selling process.

The packs are due to be introduced in early 2007, in an effort to make dealings between properties buyers and sellers more transparent, and include information about the energy efficiency of the property, evidence of title, building control certificates and replies to standard searches.
