Unite Group has revealed plans to develop a student housing scheme in Coventry as part of its wider goal of creating a 1,000-home complex in the city.

The firm said its latest site acquisition would provide approximately 280 new student places, subject to planning permission.

Unite already operates two student accommodation centres in Coventry, and said the latest would cost around £13 million to develop, and was set to open ”in time for the 2017/18 academic year”.

Richard Simpson, managing director of property for Unite Students, said the latest development site was adjacent to one of its existing Coventry properties, which had performed strongly since its 2007 opening.

“We are delighted to have secured another excellent site in a strong regional location in line with our development strategy,” he said.

“Our properties in Coventry have performed well over the last 10 years and this new property will help meet the growing demand for student accommodation in the city.”
