Developer calls for "seriously exiciting" architects to enter competition for second phase of Walsall Waterfront scheme

Urban Splash has launched an international competition for the second phase of its Walsall Waterfront scheme.

The developer is looking for a "seriously exciting" architect to design the 2 acre site, according to Nathan Cornish, managing director of Urban Splash Midlands.

Speaking at the Mipim property event in Cannes, Cornish said: "Whether you're a one man band or the biggest architect in the country, we want to hear from you."

Urban Splash is already onsite with the first phase of Walsall Waterfront, which includes two buildings designed by SMC Alsop and separate schemes by shedkm and Feix Merlin.

Alsop will sit on the judging panel for the second phase design, alongside Glen Howells, Hazel Rounding from shedkm, and representatives from partner organizations Advantage West Midlands and Walsall Regeneration.

Architects have until 30 May to submit site plans, site sections and elevations. A shortlist of six will then be displayed in Walsall before a decision is made later in the summer.
