Neil Tomlinson Architects and Davis Langdon are also on team for the 57-acre market site

A team led by URS and featuring Foster + Partners is to draw designs for the redevelopment of New Covent Garden Market.

The market will occupy a 57-acre site in Wandsworth, south west London, and the nine-strong team will produce a technical and design brief for the Market Authority over the summer.

As part of the first phase of the development, URS’ team will develop a strategy for the operational side of the market as well as preliminary urban design solutions for the site.

The team includes Foster + Partners, Neil Tomlinson Architects, Davis Langdon, Promar International, MVA, Preston Solutions, Booth Smith Food Technology, and Integrated Services and Utilities.

Baroness Dean, chairperson of the Covent Garden Market Authority, said: ”The team we have selected are a highly qualified, integrated, multidisciplinary design team to develop a working design brief for the Market. The team’s flexible make-up allows them to respond effectively to this project’s complex requirements.”

The CGMA said it would look to procure a private development partner for the site later on in the year.
