Protestors attempt to access Balfour Beatty’s Blackfriars station

A video has emerged of protestors clashing with police outside Balfour Beatty’s Blackfriars station construction site in London.

The disturbances came as electricians staged protests across the country for the fourth consecutive month over planned changes to their pay and conditions.

Protest organisers claimed demonstrations also took place at Redcar in Hartlepool; Cardiff Hospital, Wales, St Catherine’s Hospital in Birkenhead and Balfour Beatty’s head office in Glasgow, Scotland last Wednesday.

Seven of the industry’s largest electrical contractors - including Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) - have been targeted after they announced plans to ditch a 40-year-old wage agreement between employers and electrical workers.
