An arts centre designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects for Colchester in Essex has won planning permission.

The £16.5m visual centre will house a temporary exhibition space and a gallery displaying a collection of Latin American art. It is designed to sit lightly on the ground to permit archaeological exploration underneath. Construction by Banner Holdings will start immediately with completion late next year. Adams Kara Taylor is structural engineer, Arup services is the engineer and Turner & Townsend is the project manager and quantity surveyor.
