Assael Architecture has won an international competition to design a large residential and commercial scheme on the banks of the River Aire in Leeds. The 2.5 ha site is close to Leeds' main train station and will comprise offices, restaurants, shops and 600 apartments with a large open piazza facing the canal. The design has a series of cascading buildings with views of the river from most apartments. It also incorporates Leeds council's plans for a pedestrian bridge crossing the river and the Liverpool canal.
