Portsmouth contractor Warings returned to the black in 2008, posting a pre-tax profit of £202,000

The firm, which was bought by French contractor Bouygues for £30m in December 2007, fell £7.2m in the red in last eight months of 2007. The loss was caused by problem jobs, including a residential scheme in Swindon and Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey. Turnover rose by an annualised rate of 6% to £98.8m and the highest-paid director took home £234,000, compared with £141,000 the previous year.
