Waterman Group has posted a 43% rise in pre-tax profit to £3.3m for the six months to 31 December 2007.

Turnover jumped from £47.7m to £63.6m over the same period.

Nick Taylor, the consulting engineer’s chief executive, said the results had been driven by Waterman’s UK and international acquisitions and efficiency savings in the existing business.

He said: “All the sectors in which we operate are performing well.” He added that this would insulate it from the downturn.

More than 25% of Waterman’s turnover is from overseas and Taylor said its recent offices in Kazakhstan, Abu Dhabi, Brisbane and Tianjin in China had generated significant business.
