Wates has won a £31.6m contract to build one of Birmingham City Centre’s tallest buildings.

The 30-storey building on Broad Street for developer Regal is on the The Bank site and is designed by Glancy Nicholls Architects. It will be nine storeys higher than the neighbouring structure, also built by Wates.

Work recently began on site and when complete in autumn 2019, will also boast ground floor retail space with the development covering an area of more than 16,000 m2.

The first building at The Bank has been completed, with the first occupants of the 189 studio, one and two bedroom apartments set to move in from July 2019.

John Carlin, business unit director at Wates Construction Midlands, said: “When complete, the two buildings of The Bank will be a benchmark for urban residential schemes in Birmingham.”

The scheme adds to Wates’ projects across Birmingham, which includes Ardstone Capital’s Grade A office development at Phoenix House, the development of Eastside City Park and fit out of Gowling WLG’s premises at Two Snowhill.
