Developer will build 216-home build to rent scheme

Listed build to rent and student accommodation specialist Watkin Jones has won planning permission for a 216-home residential scheme in Hove.

Watkin Jones said in a statement that the Hove Gardens build to rent scheme was designed to kick-start the regeneration of the Hove Station neighbourhood and would include the delivery of substantial public realm improvements.

The scheme (pictured), which includes 2,000 sqm of commercial floorspace, is the first major development approved in Brighton & Hove since the Green Party regained control of the council in July.

Public realm improvements will include the provision of widened pavements, street lighting, seating, new trees and planting, and the scheme will deliver 10% affordable housing.

The firm plans to start work on site in November, subject to concluding Section 106 negotiations, and hopes to complete the homes for occupation in April 2023.
