Multiplex assured that steelwork will continue tomorrow, despite 250 steelworkers and scaffolders being told last week that they would be made redundant.

Wembley contractor Multiplex has been advised that steelwork on the project will continue tomorrow despite a dispute over pay.

Two-hundred-and-fifty steelworkers and scaffolders on the project were told last week that they would be made redundant from tomorrow (Tuesday) following a pay dispute between steel contractor Hollandia and labour provider Fast Track. However, Multiplex says that it has now received assurances from Hollandia that work will continue tomorrow.

A Multiplex spokesperson said: "The issue with Fast Track and the steel erectors is being resolved. Hollandia has advised us that work will continue tomorrow, and the steelworkers will remain at work."

The dispute, which erupted last Tuesday, occurred when Fast Track told workers it could not afford to continue their employment as it had not received "adequate funding" from Hollandia.
