Top five housebuilder Wilson Connolly has made a massive leap into the timber-frame housing market by buying Northampton-based timber-frame manufacturer Prestoplan for an undisclosed sum.

Under the new ownership, Prestoplan will operate as an autonomous business unit, headed by Wilcon’s new chairman and group financial director David Lawther.

Prestoplan’s current management will be retained with a brief to carry out a development programme to increase the company’s market share.

Established in 1967, Prestoplan designs, manufactures and erects timber-frame houses. Of the 5000 homes Wilcon will build this year, 40% will have timber frames.
