Willmott Dixon has been appointed to build a new £80m retail and leisure development in Rochdale, Greater Manchester.

Delivered by a joint venture of regeneration specialists Genr8 Developments and developer Kajima in partnership with the borough council, the Rochdale Riverside project includes 200,000ft2 of retail and leisure accommodation in the centre of the town.

It will comprise 24 new retail and leisure units and a six-screen cinema. Work is set to start on site on 26 February and complete in summer 2020.

Contracts for work packages connected to build, including groundwork, steelwork, roofing and cladding, will be awarded in the coming months.

Around 250 employees could be working on the site at peak times, with some 80 different firms likely to be subcontracted to help deliver the scheme.

Willmott Dixon will be hosting a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event in Rochdale next month to provide local firms with an opportunity to find out more about the work packages associated with building Rochdale Riverside and how they can get involved.
