City fringe scheme being built by Gear

Groundworks have begun on a planned 318 room hotel near Old Street roundabout in east London.

Designed by Squire & Partners, the Art’otel Hoxton will be built on the corner of Rivington Street and Great Eastern Street and will be operated by hotel group PPHE.

The 22-storey building will also include a ground floor restaurant, art gallery, auditorium, gymnasium, spa and five floors of office space.

Existing buildings, including the Foundry building, which has long been used by local street artists, are due to be torn down by the end of this year, with construction work on the hotel expected to begin next spring.

Work is due to finish in 2022. Contractor on the job is London firm Gear Construction.
