Work on Liverpool FC's new ground will start next month after club was given the go-ahead at the weekend

Work to redevelop Liverpool Football Club’s new stadium will start next month officials have announced today.

The club was given the green light to start building work on the 60,000 seat stadium after a meeting over the weekend between the new owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks, chief executive Rick Parry and council officials.

Parry said: “We have been working for many years with the city council and the community to deliver not just a new stadium but also the regeneration of north Liverpool."

“Our new owners have taken the sensible decision to review the plans to enable us to create an even better stadium that will serve the needs of the club and the fans for the next 50 years.”
