New £2.5m college designed by Annand & Mustoe will tackle housing skills shortage in Cambridge region.

A new vocational training college for modern methods of construction will go on site in Cambridge later this month.

The £2.5m SmartLIFE Centre designed by Annand & Mustoe is located at the Science Park of Cambridge Regional College.

It will train around 500 students in modern methods of construction every year and will include two full size MMC homes, a visitor’s centre and conference centre.

SmartLIFE was established to examine how the Cambridge region could meet government housing targets.

As well as the training centre, SmartLIFE is building 80 pilot homes to compare modern and traditional methods of construction.

Bluestone is the main contractor for the training centre and it is expected to be completed in January 2006.
