RMJM-designed building resembles an X-chromosome from the air

Bam Construction is nearing completion on its biggest development to date, the £159m Laboratory of Molecular Biology for the Medical Research Council in Cambridge.

The 32,500m2 development is on schedule to be handed over in January 2012.

The building was designed by RMJM Architects and, from the air, resembles an X-chromosome.

The six storey building devotes every other floor to services to allow room for updating the building infrastructure over time to keep up with the pace of scientific development.

The extra floors allow this to happen without disturbing scientists at work.
