Speirs also highlighted the worrying trend of homeowners attempting to tackle electrical installation and maintenance work themselves and called for the NICEIC to increase its visibility as a consumer safety organisation. The web site relaunch is seen as a pivotal part of this exercise and will be backed by a marketing campaign that includes distribution of a brochure explaining the NICEIC's role.
The site is split into four distinct sections – approved and non-approved contractors, specifiers and householders – which are designed specifically for each user group. The NICEIC roll of approved electrical contractors is fully accessible from all areas of the site.
The site was originally launched in 1998, and, although it was used extensively by electrical contractors, the mass of information was difficult for the public to navigate. This new-look site aims to be far more accessible.
