The 2003 Building Services Awards night was a glittering success as the industry honoured its best achievements of the last year.
The Grosvenor House Hotel was the place to be as the Building Services Awards went into their sixth year. The 2003 event was a great hit, with its 007 James Bond theme, complete with Odd Job and Jaws lookalikes. Winners and runners up alike celebrated the industry's biggest awards event, playing roulette at the charity casino (sponsored by Eaton-Williams) and enjoying two giant Scalextric tracks.

Hoare Lea scooped Large consultancy of the year, for its continuous commitment to staff training and professional development. Judges felt that Hoare Lea exemplified a consultancy working to high standards, delivering what clients want with a strong sustainable edge.

Haden Young took the trophy for Major m&e contractor of the year – for the third year running. Haden Young's analysis of its performance using KPI's provides a robust examination of the business, and allows the organisation to address any weak spots.

Connell Mott MacDonald took the award for IT in building services. Its system for transferring building models from one type of software to another, without having to recreate the model several times, saves both time and money. Judges said this use of IT was "head and shoulders above the rest because of the massive boost in productivity that it delivers".

And Gifford & Partners took the Engineers taking the lead award for its real commitment to making sustainability achievable for as many clients as possible. Gifford's 'commercial green' philosophy encourages clients to see sustainability as something which is both desirable and affordable. The award recognises Gifford's attempt to put engineers at the forefront of helping clients understand the true benefits of energy efficient, sustainable buildings.

Congratulations to all our winners. And many thanks to all our sponsors – without your support we couldn't have such a great evening. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2004. Keep your eyes peeled for announcements and calls for entry at the end of the year.
