North by North-east London: One of Southern Housing’s most striking projects this year was its redevelopment of Gainsborough Studios in London. The site of the studios, where Alfred Hitchcock made a number of films, is now home to 32 flats for shared ownership. The development includes a canal and sculpture garden.

Southern’s annual report, which featured the development, was published last week. It showed the group’s income had increased by £7.5m between 2002 and 2003 – a rise of 15%.
