QS to help bring 19th church into the 21st century

Northcroft has been appointed QS on a project to reinvent a Grade II listed church in Onslow Square, Chelsea.

St Paul's Church is currently being used as an administrative centre for the client, Holy Trinity Brompton. The interior of the church is to be remodelled and a new crypt created at basement level. After the restoration, the church will be a 'modern and sustainable' place of worship and include a 'family life centre', theology centre, bookshop, leisure facilities and three residential units.

Work will also concentrate on improving the energy efficiency of the building and extra space is to be created by inserting an additional building adjacent to the church.

Work will start in April next year and is due for completion in October 2008. The architect on the scheme is Fosters and Partners, and the structural engineer is Arup.
