In your article entitled Battle Grounds, Vicky Ford, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Birmingham Northfield, was holding forth about Northfield as an area covered by the government’s Urban Living housing renewal pathfinder for Birmingham and Sandwell.

She does not appear to know that Northfield is not part of the pathfinder, which is located to the north and west of the city, whereas Northfield constituency is in the south. She comes from East Anglia and has been parachuted into Birmingham by the Tories for the election, so it is not surprising that she does not know a lot about the area.

But I would have hoped she would at least know the difference between north Birmingham and south Birmingham if she wants to represent people here!

On the other hand, towards the end of her remarks, Ms Ford appeared to endorse the recent call by local Labour MP, Richard Burden, for more decisions on Northfield’s housing repairs to be taken locally, under the devolution arrangements pioneered by the former Labour administration in Birmingham.

So at least she got that one right.
