With reference to the article ‘Recalibrate your career’ (CM, March) one omission is your lack of coverage on the NVQ process at levels 3 to 5, site supervisory to senior management. NVQs have been with the industry for some time and are an excellent method for those within the industry, having gained years of experience, to achieve a nationally recognised qualification, in some instances providing direct access to chartered status

The MSc offered at Salford and the other leading academic institutions is a robust qualification, but let us not forget that for some, returning to the classroom is not an exciting prospect and something they cannot dedicate the time to.

An NVQ can be undertaken on site with evidence of application of the theory observed in its naturally occurring place, and an experienced assessor can use their judgement to make an award.
