A new commercial building development in Leeds, No 2 City Walk, has been completed significantly faster thanks to prefabricated m&e services.

The use of the off-site prefabricated modules on the £10 million project saw the m&e installation time reduced by around 50% compared to using traditional methods. M&E contractor Goodmarriott & Hursthouse installed the MEP Solutions modules throughout the six-storey building.

Specified by developer Simons Construction, they were designed and constructed at MEP Solutions' Northumberland plant. Two types of module were produced; main circuit (run out) and riser versions. Both were supplied with preinsulated Mapress galvanised steel tube and fittings to link with the building's lthw and chilled water circuits and risers.

The run out modules were constructed around a flat Unistrut frame. These were manufactured at lengths of under 3 m to satisfy goods lift restrictions. Riser modules were of three-dimensional box frame construction and of 4·1 m overall height.
