This is the fourth edition in the series and responds to the issues currently affecting the procurement, design and occupation of commercial office buildings.

Familiar design criteria remain, albeit amended and updated to take account of the changes that are taking place in the way office space is used as well as the growing body of relevant legislation. In addition, a series of boxes have been scattered through the guide, which consider the broader issues involved at particular points in the design and procurement cycle. The issues raised fall under the headings of sustainability, business performance and cost and value.

There is also a section that considers how the commercial office may develop over the next 10 years. The topic is divided into four sections – business performance, cost and value, mixed use and sustainability – which should provide valuable pointers to what might lie ahead.
