A new landmark office development by Walker Group (Scotland) Ltd close to the River Clyde in Glasgow has had its central atrium and stair core protected against the spread of fire through glazed screens by FendorHansen.

Using its FineLine framing system, FendorHansen co-operated with project architects Keppie Design to finalise the design for a series of glazed fire screens which rise the full seven floors within the building, 200 Brommielaw.

The screens were originally going to form ‘punched’ openings in the steel studwork forming the infill partitions between floor slabs. This arrangement did not unfortunately, fulfil all of the necessary criteria for strength and rigidity, necessitating a re-appraissal. Under this process FendorHansen proposed to extend its FineLine frame members the full 3.5 metre storey height, offering increased stability to the entire assembly. The screens provide a full 60 minutes integrity and insulation, incorporating 27mm thick Pilkington Pyrostop.
