four rulings this week by the Local Government Ombudsman landed three councils with fines worth a total £3850.
Oxford council was told to pay a resident £1250 after misleading her into believing that she was entitled to payment under a relocation scheme. She had been told she would get a incentive for moving out of her three-bedroom house into a smaller association property.
Tower Hamlets council in east London was ordered to pay £1000 to a man suffering from tuberculosis after refusing to house him.
It blamed administrative failings for the incident.
In two separate cases, Manchester council was ordered to pay compensation to three residents. Two men were awarded a total of £1050 after they were refused housing benefit.
Another man was awarded £550 after the council failed to take action against the antisocial behaviour of his next-door neighbour.
