Disused double decker buses are being given a new lease of life as short-term living accommodation.
The Leyland Olympian buses are being transformed by Double Decker Living to provide accommodation for up to five people - typically hospital locum staff, construction crews, workers in the tourism industry, the homeless and the emergency services.
Once the seats have been removed, the buses have just under 50 m2 of floor space. The transformation includes replacement of the windows with tinted panes, the installation of two waste water tanks and a fresh water tank, and the adaption of the existing diesel fuel tank to power the warm-air heating system. Solar powered batteries supply energy, although this can be switched to the bus's on board generator or external supplies.
The buses include a complete kitchen with fridge, hob and microwave, as well as LCD television and DVD player.
