On 11 March I will be attempting The White Peaks Challenge: skiing 24 peaks in the Austrian Alps in 48 hours. I hope to raise at least £1,500 for the charity Scope.
I have genuine sympathy for Scope and its aims, having suffered a very serious head injury myself 20 years ago. They are always struggling to raise funds to help sufferers, such that only one in four people with cerebral palsy benefits from aid from Scope.
The charity is wholly dependant on support by private donation as they receive no Government or public body funding whatsoever. In my view it is a very sad state of affairs.
Supporters can rest assured that overheads and administration costs are tightly controlled such that the maximum amount directly benefits those this charity aims to help.
Accommodation for myself and the 29 others in Austria is, consequentially, somewhat Spartan, I am pleased to add.
Anyone who wishes to contribute in any way, no matter how small, can contact me at: mhawkyardandco@btopenworld.com or phone 0151 652 3063 or 07871 190354.
Perhaps some businesses may consider a corporate sponsorship which would be a tax deductible expense.
