Sky News reports thatHome Secretary Jack Straw and police chiefs are in discussion over establishing 'mini police stations' in supermarkets, post offices and community centres nationwide.
The mini-stations have been suggested as a means of modernising crime-fighting, at the same time giving officers a viable base from which to build stronger relationships with local people.
Further options under consideration by the Home Secretary include mobile police stations complete with built-in detention cells.
