Security is an issue which has risen to the top of both political and business agendas the length and breadth of the UK following the devastating London bombings on Thursday 7 July (and the attempted ‘second wave’ of bombings that was uncovered some two weeks later).

As a result of the tragic events that unfolded on 7/7, many BSIA members in the London area have seen a modest increase in client requests for security solutions. Those requests have encompassed security guarding, CCTV, access control systems, specialist X-ray equipment and intruder alarm systems.

A variety of end users in the Capital have requested such solutions, including sections of Government, large private sector organisations and those linked to public transport provision.

In particular, clients are now asking their security providers to review their current services and procedures (among them contingency planning and disaster recovery policies).

Several BSIA member companies played a vital role during and after the London bombings, and have since assisted the Metropolitan Police Service with its enquiries procedure by way of providing eye-witness accounts and statements, and also helping with the review of captured surveillance images.

The private security industry will continue to work closely with the police service and other authorities, remaining totally vigilant in the face of what is now an ever-present threat.
