Indoor detector manufacturer Optex Europe has purchased external detection specialist Security Enclosures Ltd for an undisclosed sum.
The two companies will continue to trade separately under the control of Optex MD Peter Harries.

"This is a perfect match," claimed Mr Harries. "Optex specialises in indoor and short range outdoor detectors and SEL focuses on medium and long-range outdoor detectors. But most importantly, this purchase takes Optex further into the CCTV market. We are becoming world leaders in event-driven CCTV – with the new ACPO Policy, video verification of alarms is becoming a big priority for installers."

He continued: "Until now, all Optex manufacturing and R&D has been managed from Japan, but this acquisition gives us a UK facility."

Sutton-based SEL is best known for its Redwall range of medium and long-range PIRs, along with the Redwatch detector and camera combination.

  • Julian Sharples has joined Optex Europe in a marketing and public relations role. Mr Sharples was founder and former MD of miniature camera specialist GBC. He commented: "GBC was a market-leading company, but today the PIR camera is less about covert surveillance and more about triggering CCTV systems to capture the images that matter and verify alarms."
