National regeneration agency English Partnerships announced a funding package of £15.1m for Hastings Millennium Community last Thursday

Preparation work can now start on the first phase of the Ore Valley site, which will bring 677 homes to the area, some 25% of them affordable, plus commercial, community and leisure facilities.

The ODPM chose Hastings Community Village as one of 10 English locations to trial design codes, which set standards for instance on road layout, to speed up delivery of well-built homes.

A developer will be chosen in early 2005; and then a housing association. Development will start by summer 2005.
