The Design Buro Architects have chosen to install Vistamatic safety vision panels in the majority of doors at the new Ardenleigh Centre medium security mental health unit in England, so staff are able to see into a room before entering.
The £10.5 centre, owned by Birmingham and Solihull NHS Trust, can accommodate 30 women and 24 children.

Says project manager Gordon Evans from Taylor Woodrow Ltd: ‘It was important to the client to create a homely and de-institutionalised setting.

‘Safety precautions have to be of pivotal importance, and 67 vision panels, incorporating 6mm toughened glass with 3M film and 10mm Pyrodur laminated glass with a 30 minute fire rating, especially designed with no ligature points were therefore installed in bedrooms and recreational lounges – areas where extra surveillance may be required.’

With a standard size of 404mm x 404mm, the panels meet BS6206 and are available with extra fire protection and can be further upgraded to meet anti-bandit standard BS54.
