The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) has persuaded the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) to amend the planned Part P of the Building Regulations. Supported by the ECA and the British Security Industry Association, the NSI gained clarification that work on extra low voltage signal wiring in kitchens is non-notifiable.
Originally, all minor work in kitchens and other locations including bathrooms was to be notified to local council building control departments.
Richard Norburn, NSI director of standards and certification, said: “We are very grateful that the ODPM has acted so swiftly. They have fully taken on board our suggestions, thus avoiding unnecessary complications for installers of electronic security systems.”
