The planned move by the BBC from its existing Midlands studios at Pebble Mill to a brand new facility within the prestigious Mailbox building in the heart of Birmingham sees the continuation of a long-standing relationship between the broadcaster and CCTV manufacturer Pelco.
Pelco 200 Series cameras are to be installed at the new location to cover both the public and reception areas, while a DX 9000 digital recording system is being deployed by the BBC to record images from all 35 CCTV cameras (which are then stored for a minimum 31-day period).
Installed by Reliance Hi-Tech, the camera system will monitor all of the equipment being commissioned on site as the BBC undertakes its phased 12-month move. The Mailbox will act as a Network Production Centre for BBC local radio, TV and Radio 2, employing over 1,200 staff.
Currently, Pelco DX 9000 digital recording systems are also used at BBC Broadcasting House in London.
