Security and surveillance systems specialist Photo-Scan has launched a vehicle number plate recognition system to help private businesses, the police and Local Authorities identify suspicious cars and control the flow of vehicles.
INPReS comprises a network of cameras that will automatically check the number plates of stationery or moving vehicles. Such technology, of course, is already in use for the congestion charging system in London. When integrated with perimeter protection and access control systems, it can provide businesses with secure control over vehicular access to their car parks and premises.
Police forces are already starting to use INPReS in conjunction with their own databases to spot either stolen, untaxed or suspicious vehicles. Local Authorities may deploy the system to monitor road traffic and link it to their existing traffic signals network.
