Developed following strong calls to Pilkington from its customers for such a product, Pilkington Activ Blue, so called because of its attractive ice blue tint, offers the renowned self-cleaning properties of the original product, but with the addition of excellent solar control properties and light transmission.
In addition, Pilkington Activ Blue is available from stock and can be processed and manufactured into sealed units quickly and with minimal special handling and installation requirements.
Units offered with Pilkington Activ Blue benefit from permanent self-cleaning and solar control properties, rather than the limited performance provided by temporary coatings and film applied to standard glass.
Matt Buckley, Marketing Director for Pilkington Building Products, says that Pilkington Activ Blue comes purely as a result of market demand: ‘The nature of Pilkington Activ has always made it an ideal solution for use in roofs where the continuous cleaning properties keep the building looking pristine and save large sums of money for specialist cleaning and maintenance. There are already highly successful applications of this around the world, in some very prestigious buildings.
‘It was a natural step therefore to produce a product that benefited the growing conservatory market in the UK, but that can be processed easily and quickly. It provides a product that at once provides the important self-cleaning properties to keep difficult-to-reach roofs clean and free from mould and other typical organic contamination, whilst also significantly reducing solar gain within the structure. Pilkington Activ Blue offers an ideal, cost-effective solution for all conservatory roofs, that is readily available and which will provide performance for the lifetime of the conservatory itself.’
