I read with interest a letter to Saleem Akram concerning underpinning ("Technical Guidance", CM Jan 2003).
Saleem quite rightly explained that this is a very broad subject area and pointed the reader towards certain ACOPS. My reasons for writing are that the codes of practice deal invariably with traditional-type underpinning schemes, and ignore the more innovative or complex schemes available today. In fact, some schemes are unique to certain contractors and no amount of text books will help.
