This year, the show is opening on a Saturday for the first time and will for the first time run for four days. The changes are in response to those who registered last year but were too busy with work commitments to make it during the week. Under-16s will also be allowed to visit the show (on Saturday only) for the first time, but only with a family member who works in the construction industry.
Registration is free in advance on the SED website at www.sed.co.uk, or through the ticket hotline on 0870 4294374. Registration on the day costs £20. As well as registering online, you can also view the exhibitors' manual, request information on the show, search for companies and products that exhibited last year, view maps of zones and access exhibitors' websites through a links page.
What's on?
The 80-acre site has four sections: the cranes and access village, the site clearance zone, the showground and the pavilion, including the workshop.
The cranes and access village will have the largest range of cranes and powered and non-powered access equipment ever assembled in one place in the UK. Cranecare, one of this year's new additions to the Access Village, will be demonstrating a range of small hydraulic cranes that fit on a vehicle. Other exhibitors include Upright, Scanlift, Cormach Cranes, Haki, Blue line Access and Haulotte.
The site clearance zone debuted last year and was seen by 35% of visitors to SED 2000. The National Federation of Demolition Contractors supports the zone and has a range of products used in reclamation, recycling and processing of construction waste on show. Kleemann is a specialist in mobile and stationary plant used for crushing, screening, washing and recycling. The company was officially launched in the UK in November of last year and will be exhibiting for the first time at SED in the site clearance zone. The firm will have three machines on show, including its Premier impacter and crusher, which recycles concrete and brick. The system is widely used throughout Europe but is relatively new to the UK.
The showground has 14 outdoor demonstration areas. As well as equipment demonstrations, there will be opportunities for customers to test the plant themselves before signing on the dotted line. Among the newcomers to the showground this year are Fein Industrial Power Tools, Major Equipment, Stauff, Grafton Trailers and Terex.
Visitors will be able to see smaller exhibits and specialist equipment at the pavillion. Everything from hand tools to computer software will be on show there. The pavillion has its own pedestrian entrance and registration area, and a bistro café. It also includes the workshop, specifically for plant maintenance and workshop equipment. It will host the most new exhibitors in one zone at SED this year, including Beta Tools, Blumaqu, Lodematic Components, Industrial Filters, Kromberg and Shubert, Eurosite Human Resources, TA Savery and Related Fluid Power.
